Testing day
Your first test
A first grading is meant to be a proud day, not a nerve-wracking one. Here is exactly how it runs.
The 4 to 7 and after-school programs use a two-step testing path before a student is recommended for full 9th Gup white belt. A proctor walks each student through the requirements, so the first experience of testing is a guided one.
Before you arrive
- 01Uniforms should be clean, unwrinkled, with the Legacy patch sewn over the heart on the left.
- 02Arrive before the posted start time.
- 03The $60 testing fee is due before the date of the test.
- 04Candidates stay quiet and seated before and after their turn — testing is not over until everyone is dismissed.
- 05Parents: please keep the room quiet, and step out with restless younger siblings.
- 06Photos and video are welcome, within reason and courtesy to other families.
- 07Promotions are awarded roughly two weeks after testing, once instructors have corrected anything that needs correcting.
For parents
How to help on the day
The single most useful thing you can do is arrive early and keep the room calm. Everything else is up to your student.
Arrive early
Being dressed and seated before the call time removes almost all of the nerves.
Keep it quiet
Testing is a formal occasion. Step outside with restless younger siblings.
